Prepare for What’s Next in Analytics
The Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University built its online Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) to prepare business and analytics professionals to thrive in the data-driven future. As a result, our program helps graduates go beyond simply crunching numbers. Instead, students develop the business acumen and communication skills to transform data into actionable strategies, combining quantitative methods with their practical applications and real-world use cases.
The business analytics master’s program fosters the kind of learning community that you would expect from a globally recognized university. Your colleagues will challenge you to push the boundaries of your skills, understand the latest analytical methods and technologies, and solve complex analytics problems together in your capstone project.

The Tepper MSBA is for people who never settle for “good enough,” who want to take their analytics-driven insights further and who want to make a greater impact on their organizations and the world around them. By enrolling, you’ll not only be immersed in advanced analytics, but in the culture that has made Tepper one of the top places in the world to study.
Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels. Some have little direct background with analytics but want to build the foundation for entering the field. Other students have extensive experience as analysts, analytics managers, consultants and other quantitative roles and are looking to hone their mastery of analytics and business strategy.
All Tepper students, whether they take classes on campus or online, have access to the Tepper Masters Career Center, where they engage with expert career counselors and receive role-specific advice. In addition to being one of the most recognized business career centers in the U.S., we maintain active relationships with more than 200 top companies in order to provide a robust recruiting roster, a pipeline for job postings and connections for our students.
Our commitment to our students extends beyond graduation through our network of alumni — an elite club of leaders in their fields who remain engaged with the Tepper School community. The Tepper alumni network consists of more than 17,000 alumni. Upon graduation, MSBA students will gain access to resources like the alumni hub, where they can connect with professionals from all over the world.

Develop Skills to Go Beyond Crunching Numbers
The online business analytics master’s has been tailored to equip students with the unique set of skills that organizations need to stay competitive in an increasingly data-driven world. Like a data science master’s degree, students will build proficiency in technical skills, such as programming in R and Python. However, the MSBA program also challenges graduates to think beyond basic proficiency with programming languages and other tools, and consider the real-world business applications of their analyses.
The MSBA can be completed part-time in 20 months and provides students with opportunities to build foundational business knowledge, practical experience using analytics and the communication skills to persuade stakeholders to take action.
Some of the key areas of learning in the curriculum include:
- Methodology including machine learning and optimization
- Software Engineering including large-scale data management and programming in R and Python
- Business communication for stakeholders throughout the organization, from subordinates to executives
- Analytics knowledge within the context of marketing, operations, accounting, finance and other business domains
“The main reasons I chose the MSBA program at Tepper were the flexibility of the online program and Carnegie Mellon’s long-standing history of achievements in data science and analytics. The flexibility allows me to be a multidimensional learner — at work and at school — and CMU provides me with the support and resources to get the most out of all my courses.”
