What does industry need today? What will businesses need in the future? The Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University developed the curriculum for the Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) program from the ground up with these questions in mind. Industry leaders report that their greatest need is for professionals who not only have advanced data analytics skills, but also the right kind of business knowledge to transform data into strategic decisions.
To this end, the innovative MSBA curriculum includes courses in data science skills and techniques, machine learning, optimization, data visualization, big data, as well as a solid understanding of analytics in a business context that allows our graduates to not only apply, but communicate, data effectively.
The program’s purpose is to produce high-caliber graduates with a unique aptitude for solving complex business problems, strong communication skills, and an intellectual and competitive advantage in the business analytics field, which has already transformed entire industries.
Who Can Benefit
The MSBA is geared to individuals with technical backgrounds who want to deepen their analytical skills and move into senior positions in business analytics. Online MSBA students have varying levels of professional work experience and may have little or no background in business, analytics or data science. However, prospective students should have basic knowledge of any modern programming language and evidence of strong quantitative ability.
Our students share a passion for making data actionable and for uncovering data-driven insights that put their organizations ahead of the competition. They value the combination of intellectual challenge, analytics expertise and practical business education that only the Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University has the capability to offer.

“The main reasons I chose the MSBA program at Tepper were the flexibility of the online program and Carnegie Mellon’s long-standing history of achievements in data science and analytics. The flexibility allows me to be a multidimensional learner — at work and at school — and CMU provides me with the support and resources to get the most out of all my courses.”
