The Tepper School of Business at Carnegie Mellon University built its online Master of Science in Business Analytics (MSBA) to prepare business and analytics professionals to thrive in the data-driven future. As a result, the MSBA helps graduates go beyond simply crunching numbers. Instead, students develop the business domain and communication skills to transform data into actionable strategies, combining quantitative methods with their practical applications and real-world use cases.

Our program fosters the kind of learning community that you would expect from a globally recognized university. Your colleagues will challenge you to push the boundaries of your skills, understand the latest analytical methods and technologies, and solve complex analytics problems together in your capstone project.

The Tepper MSBA is for people who never settle for “good enough,” who want to take their analytics-driven insights further and who want to make a greater impact on their organizations and the world around them. By enrolling, you’ll not only be immersed in advanced analytics, but in the culture that has made Tepper one of the top places in the world to study.

Is an MS in Business Analytics From Tepper Right for Me?

The MSBA is geared to individuals with quantitative backgrounds who want to develop their analytical expertise alongside the business and communication skills needed to make their analyses more impactful. If you’re someone who knows businesses today could do a better job using data, and you want to be part of making that happen, we’re interested in hearing from you.

Our students come from a variety of backgrounds and experience levels. Some have little direct background with analytics but want to build the foundation for entering the field. Other students have extensive experience as analysts, analytics managers, consultants and other quantitative roles, and are looking to hone their mastery of analytics and business strategy.

Tepper MSBA students share a passion for using data to make better decisions and seek to learn alongside peers who are just as driven and talented as they are. Our high admission standards ensure that all students actively contribute to classroom discussions and team projects, and that they raise the bar for their entire cohort.

Tepper students, whether they take classes on campus or online, have access to the Tepper Masters Career Center, where they engage with expert career counselors and receive role-specific advice. In addition to being one of the most recognized business career centers in the U.S., we maintain active relationships with more than 200 top companies in order to provide a robust recruiting roster, a pipeline for job postings and connections for our students.

Our Professors Stand at the Forefront of Analytics

Zachary Lipton

“There was an explosion in interest for machine learning when I was starting my Ph.D. The following summer, I worked as part of a core machine learning team on the technology that went into Amazon’s recommendation engine for products like Prime Video. The year after that, I worked in Microsoft Research. In my last year, I was simultaneously finishing my Ph.D. as a full-time data scientist and working on a really talented team with Amazon AI.”
—Zachary Lipton, Assistant Professor of Operations Research and Machine Learning

In addition to networking with their peers, MSBA students learn from and engage with our faculty, among the world’s foremost experts in business analytics.
