The Tepper School of Business designed the online MS in Business Analytics (MSBA) on-campus experiences to provide distance learners with opportunities that emphasize:
- Interaction with faculty members and each other
- Interaction with industry professionals
- Experiential learning that simulates real-world business environments
- Inclusion in the greater Tepper School and Carnegie Mellon University communities
The three on-campus components are:
Beginning of Mini-Semester 2
BaseCamp sets the stage for productive communication, collaborative learning and success throughout the MSBA program. As with each on-campus visit, students stay at the same hotel and have lunch with faculty members and each other.
During BaseCamp, faculty members provide students with a high-level overview of the MSBA program and bring in a range of Tepper School staff, including members of the recruitment team, to supply information about financial aid, career planning and student services. Other BaseCamp activities include a company visit, campus tour and social event in Pittsburgh.
Beginning of Mini-Semester 5
This on-campus component provides students with an immersive experiential learning and networking experience. They work closely on a business case with faculty members, each other and industry experts. Typically, students work on the case in the morning, and present their work to the judges in the afternoon. Recruiters may be invited to attend.
End of Mini-Semester 4 in Year Two
Students work with a company on a project throughout the full-semester Capstone course. They present their findings to representatives of this company during the final on-campus visit, which is the culmination of the MSBA program.
On-Campus Experience Logistics
Each of the three on-campus visits takes place over a weekend at the main Carnegie Mellon campus in Pittsburgh. Attendance is expected, but in extenuating circumstances can result in exceptions and alternative arrangements.
The Tepper School arranges student lodging at a nearby hotel. Tuition covers the cost of lodging and lunches for each of the three on-campus visits. Students are responsible for arranging and paying for their own travel to and from campus and other associated expenses.
